This template should theoretically never be added by a person, only by an automated system. Its purpose is to mark pages which were generated from data. This allows us to track which pages were generated so. I also allows tracking of which pages have received attention since, particularly in order to update the body text. These pages are kept in the category Category:Autogenerated stubs. Once a page has been reviewed by a person, the template should be modified with a signature or timestamp in the second variable location, like this: {{autogenerated|(old timestamp)|~~~~}}

In some cases, the update process will be to look to see if an older version of the page got supplanted by the automatically generated one and to copy the body text from there. If no older pages exist, the body text will need to be written, as the page didn't previously exist.
